I am NOT Disappointed

Well. I have finally decided to chime in and talk about my experience with the original THX and the New DVD version.

First, I have been a huge fan of THX since the 1980's when I first saw it and read the Bbova book.  I am not a Lucas Star Wars freak of life, however I do find the Star Wars episodes a fun and entertaining experieince.

THX was a true vision of a possible future through the eyes of GL. Yes it screams of "1984" and Big Brother but that is the point.

As for the new version I can say I not only enjoyed it, I loved it. I felt the added "Effects" did not in any way change the story or the impact of the original. It added some futuristic realism and made it very exciting to watch again.
Did GL do a good job with what he had in 1970.... Totally, but now we are seeing what he wanted us to see the whole time. If you think you like the first version better, then you are saying you like the incomplete vision of the story. Or not the real THX from GL developmental eyes.

At any rate, it has been fun to see you all posting and debating this event. It is hard to believe after so many years of rehashing the original "ideals" that we now have some new "Food For Thought".

By the way,,,, before someone asks me if I have burned my original VHS version of THX the answer is NO. I treasure it and have it filed away in the "Under Development" section of my collection.

I agree as well. We all loved the original and always will. But I really enjoy the directors cut. This is where some of you reach out and smack me, but I don't care. Between the great picture, sound, letterbox fomat and most of the additional scenes, I really love it. The car chase scene still looks a little out of place, but that is like 10 seconds of the movie and it doesn't bother me when I'm watching at all. Like SEN said, it really is still the same movie....

Blessings of the State. Blessings of the masses. Thou art a subject of the divine. Created in the image of man, by the masses, for the masses. Let us be thankful we have a job to fill. Work hard; increase production; prevent accidents; and be happy.

I dig the new one as well (particularly the industrial accident scenes), but I really believe the original should be 'preserved for the ages'. Wink

3 days ago i finally decided to buy myself the THX DirectorŽs Cut Double pack....and i gotta tell you, i loved it!
First i was doubtful, of course. I have considered THX as one of my favourite films since i 1st seen it on VHS in 1985 (14 yrs old then), and  i was affraid that the new CGI insertions would erase that beautiful 1970Žs Sci-fi texture off the movie. But to my happiness, that did not happen!
George is wise enough to know what makes movies last in peopleŽs heads. And for me, THX is still one of the best experiences one could get from that period of fantastic cinema.
IMHO, anyone saying that changing details in artwork is some kind of heresy should just go and get themselves the old version in home video, laser dic or DVD and try to be happy.
