OMM painting, who did it?
« on: September 12, 2004, 06:19:52 pm »

Greetings,
Can someone help me with a question?   I would like to know what painting Lucas use in the film of OMM.  I know it must be a classical-renaissance-gothic painting but I donâ??t know by whom.

Iâ??m fairly knowledgeable about ART (since I went to Art school) , but I just cant find this image anywhere.

Thank you,
Ka-Spel

I got to see the early DVD release.  Walter Murch gives the artists name in the commentary track.  I forget, though.
If I remember correctly, it is a genuine old painting.

He says its Lucas Cranach. (I think)

The thing is, there is 2 Lucas Cranach's. The Elder, and The Younger.

But, as I looked around, I could not find any image even close to the one in THX-1138. So either he made a mistake, and credited the wrong artist, or I just couldnt find it Smiley

On a side note, I onced had a site bookmarked, which specifically spoke of this painting. I bookmarked it because it was about THX-1138 and the painting. But I lost that bookmark Sad

Ok, so I think I found out who it really is.

Hans MEMLING

The title of the painting is called:

Christ Giving His Blessing

Here is a link to a picture:

Let me know.

**UPDATE**

It also could be this painting:

Its by the same artist.

Thank you SMH1982javascript:emoticon('Cheesy')
Very Happy  i'm am so pleased with this information.  i believe that the image that was used was :   http://gallery.euroweb.hu/art/m/memling/2middle1/10bless.jpg

the reason that i think this is it, is in the right eyebrow (our right, wip'n boys' left, he he)javascript:emoticon('')
Twisted Evil

There is a image in balck & white somewere (on this site ?) of Donald Pleasence feeding a biscut to OMM.

as OMM says:
Blessings of the State. Blessings of the masses. Thou art a subject of the divine. Created in the image of man, by the masses, for the masses.

Thought this might be a final nail to prove this is indeed the painting. This pic is from his student version:
