I've seen it.
« on: September 11, 2004, 02:28:49 pm »

I had the fortune to see the advanced release of the DVD through a friend.
All I can say is that the film maintains it's integrity.  There is a lot of CGI.  A couple of reworked shots are a bit overdone in typical GL fasion, but most are very seamless.
A couple of scenes are re-edited outright for some reason.

The commentary is by Lucas and Walter Murch.  It is not (as I anticipated) an overview of the changes but rather a frank discourse on some of the intentions and recolections about making the film.  Overall it is fairly informative.
No comment about what the make of the cars are - but I noticed for the first time watching all the end credits that FiberFab, Inc. is in the special thanks.  So it turns out they did have something to do with it after all.

I am very pleased with this DVD.  All my ranting and bitching was prejudiced fears based on my opinions of the STAR WARS series.
I should chill out for a change.

...When I first arrived here, I saw things as perhaps you do now.
Yes, I was confused about my predicament.
I longed to thrash out.  To tear down.  To destroy and annihilate.  To... to ravage and wreak havoc and plunder.

Much confusion regarding the cars used in the film. The vehicle Duvall's character plays, and the vehicle driven by the hologram are both Lola T70 Mark 3 Coupes- there is no doubt about it.

Fiber Fab Inc. built the Avenger GT which is a VW based kit car. 2 were used, which are seen parked in the background when the second T70 crashes into the piler.

The red car parked in the lot beside the white T70 is a Ferrari 330 P3 or P4. Judging by a lack of certain details (ie; incorrect rims and stance, missing vents and louvers), I'd say it's probably a replica. Though Fiber Fab never marketed a 330 P3/P4 kit, it's not unlikely that they fabricated this vehicle for the film.

Fiber Fab may have had something to do with the 'redress' on the T70's also.

One thing I've never been able to verify are the motorcycles used by the police. What I can tell you is that they're not Harley Davidsons. My best guess is that they are either a Triumph Daytona or Bonneville with a modified racing fairing on the front. Norton motorcycle is another possibility.
