THX 1138 Early Memories...et al
« on: July 05, 2004, 09:34:53 pm »

Hello.  This is my very first post here.  It has been an exciting evening.  I have been sporadic visitor to THX-138.ORG; my compliments to OMM.  Tonight I was perusing eBay for 1138 stuff, as I sometimes do when I am bored.  I am (was) getting increasingly interested in several THX DVD's advertised, wondering if they were worth even looking at.  I jumped over to Amazon and lo and behold, IT IS COMING IN SEPTEMBER!  So then it was off to THX-1138.ORG for the low down, where I discovered this forum.

I, too, and a bit concerned about what GL has done to my beloved movie (this flick is so engrained in my life, I took it as my badge number!).  The SW cantina scene where Solo shoots Greedo was so BOTCHED in the special edition as to completely ruin the whole movie experience for me.  Will THX 1138 DC follow suit?  We shall see...

And speaking of those eBay boots, are they worth having to get the original version?

I first saw THX 1138 in about 1978~79 at the Louisville (KY, US) Free Public Library.  They showed it in 16mm.  I can still recall sitting there next to my mom (I was only 9 or so) along with about ten other people.  My first pre-adolescent thoughts were probably something on the order of "huh?" and "wha?", as I was coming down off the SW high, and anything with GL attached to it had to follow suit, right?  Well, save for a fleeting TV showing, it would be many years before I could even find it on VHS. But I never forgot that first small-screen grainy show.  I have been waiting a long time, along with many of you, to see it on DVD.  I am still looking for it, complete, on 16mm.  That, for me anyway, would be the epitome of coolness!

I'd love to catch the new version in a theatre, but is it true it is very limited in its release? Is there a link for cities where it will show?  I wonder if there are plans for a wider screen showing later...

Well, enough with the rant.  Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome, TSG!  Cheesy

I have one of those dvd boots, and it is great. If you (or anyone else) is interested in buying one, send me a PM and I'll tell you who I got mine from (wouldn't want to name names on a public forum). The quality is superb for a boot, and the seller was a real class act!
