Lucas to Abandon Film
« on: October 05, 2006, 12:25:10 pm »

Well, that's somewhat unexpected, given that he'd said he wanted to go back to making films like 'THX' again.  Sad

Quote
"I think the secret to the future is quantity," Lucas said.

"Buy more, buy more now!"  George, what the hell?

Although later in the article it says:

Quote
He calls himself "semi-retired" but reiterated his plans to direct "small movies, esoteric in nature," after his other projects are launched.

So maybe he's abandoning the whole 'big movie' crud?  Going to go for the 'straight to video' route instead?  This is just weird news.

And this bit is good for a laugh:

Quote
Lucasfilm also is working on "Red Tails," a film about the Tuskegee airmen of WWII.

Roll Eyes Tongue  Red Tails, indeed.  I thought that was a supposed code name for the Episode I filming back in '97-'98?

Well, whatever, Mr. Lucas.  I just hope you *do* come back to making small, non-mainstream *films* again.  And don't let the Star Wars TV thing suck.  Please.

I hope he never makes another film. The days of the THX creativity is long gone. I'll never forget his interview with Charlie Rose, where he straight out said that the reason he wanted to make these last 3 Star Wars because he needed the money. I was in shock when I heard him say that.

What he should do is re-re-release THX with the theaterical cut w/out the CGI. I mean he's released Star Wars like what, 3 times now on dvd?

I think the Charlie Rose interview hit it on the head.  THX1138 without the CGI would not sell in the US in 2006.  You and I and the rest of the THX fans would see it, but it would not be profitable for Lucas.   Sad

The movie-goers of today are mostly brain-dead slobs.  If it goes over 1.5 hours, it is too long.  If it doesn't make sense to their pea-brains they don't pay to see it.  Cry

A sad reality.  I would love to have a DVD version of THX-uncut.  My VHS copy is wearing out.
