So I wonder if this will be the *original* original theatrical release or if they'll fall back to the pre-SE THX-remasters (1995?).

I've got a box-set of VHS widescreen that I consider to be the "canonical" releases, there were a few changes made along the way that aren't in these tapes, most notably:

- The C-3PO "The tractor beam is coupled to the main reactor in 7 different locations" line from the Death Star Control Room which was added somewhere along the way, and is not in these tapes but in just about every other version out there....

- The added (or remixed waaay up) sound effects from the THX-remasters.  I remember this distinctly and most notably in the Falcon's cockpit leaving Tattooine (more blips and bleeps) and when they arrive at ex-Alderaan (the pinging off the hull of planet chunks)  One of those "Where TF did that come from" moments.

- IIRC (It's been a while) those THX-remasters had some timing changes in spots, like they sped up/slowed down the audio in certain places.

- And will this be the original "dolby surround" audio or will they remaster that (correctly this time!) or use the existing F'd up 5.1 audio?

questions, questions, questions!  Interesting they bring up the 'Episode IV' bit, so I hope they'll go back to the original prints.  I kind of wondered about this when that article came out about the restoration for the DVD.  Thinking they'd be fools if they didn't do this.  Looks like they did! Smiley

itll be neat instead of showing, the 2004 release on the second disc they should show all the deleted scenes they cut from the trilogy

I think we need to get a petition going or something if we want the same for THX-1138. Even though I hate those online petitions, it would have to be something along those lines I bet.

God I would love to have the original version, all cleaned up.......No CGI......... drool............................

First off, I'm not a newbie.

Second, I am a terrible cynic.

I just got the new SW DVD (I'm only interested in the original or so-called "episode IV")
I haven't  watched it yet - but I already have a complaint.

This release has only one purpose - to offer the original theatrical version.  Do you think they could have provided original poster art for the packaging?  No.  No, that's too obvious or something.  I figured as much - but what's worse - on the back of each case is some promo artwork that looks like it may have been produced during the eighties or whatever.
ON THE FRONT - if you can even believe it - are ugly "photoshopped" renditions of this artwork using bits and pieces of photos and artwork to EMULATE the art on the back! It's just ridiculous.

Gosh, All I want is a little respect for the original.

Cool, and at the same time, not cool!  Wink

When you watch ANH, tell us about the audio.  I'm interested if this is the *original* original audio or one of the many iterations that was tweaked along the way.  See above for some ways to tell and why I'm interested Cheesy

You could always make a custom yourself, or download one. I know of an awesome place for custom dvd covers.
