What's Wrong?

Hey, this bb is pretty dead.  That's a shame.

We've got to get back into those deep end discussions...

I think we covered most of the questions on the previous BB.  I agree that it is a shame.  This new format is great.

OK.  Here is a question:  In the beginning of THX-1138, a child is seen from LUH's point of view, opening a medicine cabinet.  Did this child live with his "parent" or did he sneak into the apartment?  I am sure that the "school" area, or wherever the children are raised would not have a medicine cabinet.  Or would it?

Are you talking about the child with a policeman who helps him to open the door ? I don't see the connection with LUH...

No, in the beginning of the movie, LUH is watching her screen when the medicine cabinet opens, the recorded voice says, "What's wrong?" and a child scampers into the distance.

I thought that was just a random medicine cabinet that some kid got into.  I assumed it was his family home.   But then we have to ask - just what is the family structure?  Do the children live with "parents"  or  teachers or police droids?  Quite a head scratcher...

What "family" is there if you are "grown" in a reproclinic in a test-tube?  I don't think that they are raised by the police, since the robot agrees to show some kids his police baton "just this once."  But, at the same time, there are no adults escorting the children when they are with the police droid.

Well, it reminds 1984, doesn't it ? Where children are conditioned by the system to be conniving with it... Future sheeps...

I don't see the children "conniving" in THX-1138.  I am sure that they would grow up to be good little informers.

If you watch it carefully, it has a man that says, I think I need something stronger, or something like that. Then few scenes later, medicine cab is still open. The child runs up to it, and almost seems to be trying to get help. You can also hear the child say something like "daddy" or "pappa."

So Im guessing the guy overdosed or something similar to THX, and the child is helpless.

That is pretty sad.  No wonder LUH looks like she is about to cry.  I always thought she was crying because she wanted a child of her own . . . thus the whole push to get THX off his meds and doin' the nasty.
