IMPORTANT: This page has been copied verbatim from the old site, and I have not gotten around to fixing it. I will deal with this very soon now (tm)
Smallville: Thirst - 2005
Apparently, Luthercorp Project 1138 involves vampire bats created by the kryponite meteors... who knew?
"The Wiroja's"
Elwin gives us this new reference:
"The Wiroja's, a popular comic drawing collective in the Netherlands drawing "Sjors en Sjimmie" and "Claire", refer to THX-1138 *a lot* (it's a running gag; whenever a product code, license plate or other code-named item shows up, chances are it'll be named THX-1138).
American Grafitti (1973)
<Somebody> has the license plate '1T1H3X8' on their auto
(I know this isn't right...I'll fix this...I swear!!!
Star Wars (1977)
When Han and Luke go to the detention area to rescue the princess, Luke explains their presence as a "prisoner transfer from cellblock 1138."
Also, the princess' cell block is designated as '2187' This number shows up a few times within both THX 1138 and 4EB.
Star Wars (The Novel)
When Luke re-emerges from the belly of the Falcon in his newly acquired Stormtrooper uniform, the officer asks 'THX-1138' why he's not at his post. In the film this was "TK-421, why aren't you at your post."
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
General Riekkian states after the probe droid is discovered, "Send Rogues ten and eleven to station three-eight."
Return of the Jedi (1983)
I haven't found it yet. I'm starting to think its not there...someone prove me wrong?
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
When Indy gets off the Nazi Sub inside the hidden dock, you can hear over the loudspeaker, "ein, ein, drei, oct." (German for one-one-three-eight.) I know I've heard this, but the last time I watched it I didn't hear it. I know it's there!!! (Note: I'm not convinced of this now that I've got the DVD versions...I just can't hear it anymore...must be the mileage.)
The Phantom Menace (1999)
Near the end, when the droid control ship has been de-activated, there is a shot of the back of a battle droid. His designation? 1138. Not very subtle if you ask me. (Image borrowed from theforce.net)
<Need Name of Film> (193x?4x?)
I have the exact reference in an email somewhere. But there is an old film with, of all people, Alec Guiness(!), and there is supposedly a license tag reading 'THX-138' or 'THX-1138' in it. Coincidence? Yeah, probably, but it's still wild. This has yet to be confirmed, though. If you can supply a .jpg, please! PLEASE!
Mr. Self Destruct by Nine Inch Nails (1997?)
One of the samples used is the sound of the police batons' wallop. *nnnnthwap* Thanks to the MANY of you who wrote in to tell me what this was.
Trivia about THX 1138:
* THX-1138 was released in theatres on March 11, 1971. It's total gross is listed by this site as a mere $5,000 US. Can that even be possible?
* The source of the title "THX-1138" is the mnemonic form of Lucas, George's phone number in San Francisco when he was a student.
* Lucas, George claims that the scene where technicians mess with THX's nervous system, sending him into comical spasms, was drawn from his antipathy towards the doctors who treated him after his near-fatal car crash as a youth.
* The underground chase near the end was shot in a not-yet-completed segment of the BART subway system in San Francisco.
* The music playing during the end credits is the first movement from J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244.
* The opening title music, as well as the rest of the film's music was done by composer Lalo Schifrin, who also did the soundtrack for Dirty Harry.

NOTE: I have receive several (several!) submissions for this section, including some corrections, and I'll make sure to put them in the redesign...
