Intro... and 1st question.
« on: October 08, 2005, 07:52:32 pm »

Hi guys n gals!

Well lemme just say that for many years I have heard mention of the film many times and knew I had probably seen it as a  child or at least parts of it. My bro was a big sci fi fan and turned me onto a lot of good books and things like Soylent Green & 1984 movies.

Just recently I saw the dvd and heard a buzz about it being remade, not so much a sequel. I decided to buy it - especially since it was the directors cut.  Cheesy

I have been hooked since. I see so many parralells in this and metaphors I find myself obsessed at times. I could go on - but I don't want you folks to look at me funny (just yet at least).....Wink

I have two questions actually, come to think of it....

#1 - A missing clip from my directors cut DVD (including deleted scenes)
Always through the years when I saw a clip of the movie on tv as they talked about it briefly in various documentaries and such, it was always the same clip. He comes running down off of an escalator (almost full figure, screen centered on escalator from about 30 ft away I am guessing) - He looks one way, then the other and at one point you see a barcode on either his neck or wrist. (I forget- hey I was like 6 and shit.....!) He looks the other way again and runs. - thats all.

there is no such scene on my dvd. Does this appear on other versions or do I need to lay off the light bulbs a wee bit....

#2 - The confessional. It is the Marquis de Sade on the screen unless I am wrong. I see people mentioning him, but I thought it might have been Vlad the Impaler as they look similar. Fron what I see now it looks like it is De Sade, okay cool. My question is why? Why him? What is he trying to say about the future state of govt. institutions, etc. - is this thier Icon? Or is it a false one for the "workers" to look up to - I'm just confused. Any ideas or speculation is appreciated you guys!  Cool

Thanks for having me-

I don't remember if it was on this bbs or not, but the picture on the confessional wall is Jesus.  Maybe someone can help me with the name of the artist who painted it.

np DM. I, like you couldn't remember the name of the painter and it was annoying me so had to find out. Turned out that the answer after I Googled led me right back here.

I think that scene is from THX1138:4EB (Lucas' student film.)  If you have the new DVD, it should be inlcuded on the extras.
